What people are saying.

You'll be immediately drawn into Annie's story. Then you realize that, while the style is easy to read, the message is tough. The reason? Because we ALL have a story that's full of secrets... things that we're afraid to say out loud because... What would people think? Thank you, Annie, for choosing to share your story with us. Love you. Mean it.

I read this book in one sitting, and from someone who normally takes 4 months to read a book, that is saying something. Annie's story is so powerful. She has gone through things that most people could never even imagine, and while there is a lot of dark and traumatic events recorded in this book, her joy and peace in Jesus still shines through the pages. Reading this book was so enjoyable, and one of the reasons for this is Annie's writing style. She is amazing at describing things and setting scenes to make you feel like you’re there, but she's not at all obnoxious about it. Her writing is personal and sassy, yet also poetic and artistic. It feels like you are reading a diary. Another fun detail to this book are the little life lessons scattered throughout. It is so fun how she will take a brief pause from the story and share wisdom for people who may find themselves in similar situations. When I say you will be laughing and crying at the same time, I am not kidding. I never cry with books but there were tears in my eyes for the last 100 pages of this book (as well as some more times scattered throughout). That being said, don't think you won't also be laughing. There will be tears in your eyes and you will all of a sudden bust out laughing at something she says (this happened multiple times as well). RUN DO NOT WALK to read Too Dirty for Jesus. This story will inspire you to find peace and joy in your situation knowing that Jesus is always sovereign. Even if, and especially if, you don't believe in God or have a relationship with him, it is still a fantastic read and I would encourage anyone and everyone to read it (if you didn't pick that up already).

I was hesitant to purchase this book. But Too Dirty for Jesus is an honest account of Annie’s journey. From what I remember, the story is remarkably accurate, and the parts I didn’t know (or knew very little about) were truly heartbreaking to read. Retrospective is complicated.
